4 Important New Year’s Resolutions for Your Pets

As a new year begins, many of us take the opportunity to set goals for the months ahead. Perhaps you want to eat better or exercise more. This year, consider your pets when making New Year’s resolutions. Just like us, they could benefit from improvements to their wellness routines, but they can’t make resolutions on their own. Here are some New Year’s resolution ideas that will help promote a healthier year for your furry friends.

Get Serious About Weight Loss

You’re not the only one who wants to needs a gym pass this year. The rise in pet obesity can be attributed to poor feeding habits, such as overfeeding, high calorie treats, or table snacks. Go out and get active! Take your pets on walks or even a jog! Slow and steady wins the race. Start with a slow mild walk and advance your way to jogging. When your pet gets tired you can still get your steps in with our pet joggers: All Terrain or Breeze. With the shock absorption wheel, you can take your pets anywhere and everywhere.

Evaluate What Your Pets are Eating

Many pet owners “eyeball” their pet’s daily intake and usually end up overfeeding, which leads to weight gain. Try using a measuring cup to ensure your pet receives the proper amount of food at every meal. Ask you veterinarian about the correct portion and what type of food is proper for your pets.

Play Regularly

Everyone knows that most pets enjoy a good play, but only a few pet parents understand the importance of playtime for our cats. Interactive play is not only a great way to bond with your pets but also gives them good physical exercise and may reduce many behavioral problems. Regular daily play sessions decrease demanding behavior, build confidence in shy pets and promote positive feelings. Depending on your pet’s age and health, schedule at least 5 to 15 minute a day dedicated to playtime. Eco Hemp Pet Toys and Paw Me! Treat Balls are great toys to increase your pets amusement.

Shiny Teeth Hygiene

Establish an at home dental care routine. Both dogs and cats benefit from teeth brushing. Start brushing your pet’s teeth a few nights a week to work up to daily brushings. Sometimes a slow introduction to teeth brushing, such as one side once a day, can be helpful. A lot of positive reinforcement should be used to encourage your pets to keep this going. Our eco-friendly Bamboo Toothbrushes are non-toxic and compostable. Rather than using nylon for our bristles, our bristles are made of boar’s hair and our handles are made of bamboo. Now you can brush your pet’s teeth without worrying if you’re putting chemicals in their mouth.
